2020 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2020 Honda HR-V

Searching for a new crossover SUV that's safe, stylish, and capable? You're probably thinking about both the new Subaru Crosstrek and Honda HR-V. But which vehicle is best for your Scotts Valley adventures on or off-road? Explore how the Honda HR-V and Subaru Crosstrek compare across the categories with Santa Cruz Subaru to figure out which vehicle is the right choice for your and your family!

Engine Specs

2020 Crosstrek Performance

When you pop the hood of any 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, you'll find a 152-hp 2.0L DOHC four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine. What does that mean? SUBARU BOXER engines work differently than other engines because they're horizontally-oriented, helping create more stable performance and a lower-center of gravity. The 2020 Crosstrek also boasts standard AWD and earns up to an impressive EPA-estimated 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. As you'll see, this is a higher MPG rating than even the AWD-equipped Honda HR-V can boast.

2020 HR-V Performance

Under the hood of the Honda HR-V, you'll find a 4-cylinder engine that packs in 141 hp. Unlike the Crosstrek, however, the HR-V does not provide standard AWD. If you want AWD, you can add it as an option, which reduces fuel economy to an EPA-estimated 27 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. In fairness to the HR-V, if you choose 2WD, it manages up to an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. Still, if AWD is a must as it is for many Capitola drivers that like to venture off into the mountains for skiing or across the country for road trips, the Subaru is the better pick.

Comfort and Convenience

There's no shortage of comfort features in either the Crosstrek or the HR-V. Still, the Subaru offers many standard features not found in the Honda, including a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, rear-vision camera, and:

  • STARLINK™ 6.5-inch Multimedia Display (includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto)
  • Remote decklid release
  • Auto-dimming mirror
  • Optional compass

Safety Features

The hardest thing to find on the roads of Aptos can sometimes be peace of mind. Not so if you choose the Subaru Crosstrek over the Honda HR-V. Not only does the Crosstrek offer niceties like STARLINK™ multimedia to keep your mind at ease while listening to your favorite tunes, but it also offers available Subaru EyeSight®. Though the Honda HR-V offers safety features like daytime running lights, brake assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system, EyeSight equips the Crosstrek with even more savvy features, such as:

  • Lane Departure and Sway Warning
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Pre-Collision Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist
